To some the story of Jesus Christ begins in a little town called Bethlehem (or for purposes of our journey to #DiscoveringJesus, in the New Testament), where we read that a virgin girl gave birth to a baby Boy in a manger. The Boy would later grow up to be a great Teacher with great knowledge of Scripture, performed wonderous miracles and at the end of His earthly life died on a cross for the sins of the world, was resurrected after 3 days and ascended to heaven, but is this all there is to the One we have come to know as our Lord and Saviour? Where did He come from?
A careful study of scripture reveals that Jesus has been there since before the beginning of time, He was there even during creation.
John opens his account of the gospel by revealing four important points about Jesus: His identity, His existence, relationship with God and His role in creation (John 1:1-5)
John further affirms the identity of Christ in verse 14:
And the Word (Christ) became flesh, and lived among us; and we [actually] saw His glory, glory as belongs to the [One and] only begotten Son of the Father, [the Son who is truly unique, the only One of His kind, who is] full of grace and truth (absolutely free of deception).
John 1:14 AMP

The Apostle Paul puts the preexistence of Jesus into even greater perspective by writing that not only were ALL things ( barring nothing) in the heavens and the earth created through Jesus, but that they were created for Him. He is the essence of life. (Colossians 1: 15-16)
Jesus did not just show up to redeem and reconcile us back to God, but He has always been there.
May you fully embrace the Jesus we have learned about today: The Word, God, Creator, Life, Light of men, the Preeminent One.
